32k swf competition
There have been a 32k swf competition over at flashscene.org. Head over there and check out the entries and vote for my lame entry :P, or whoever you think should win. I have an idea of which entry will win anyway :) (Hint: starts with an A... that was just great stuff!)
Was great fun making it though, although I guess I should have used AS3/Flash9 instead of Flash8.

Merry christmas 2006
A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you people out there. Itīs been a busy year for me at work, and we have done some fun projects, won some awards and so on... Hope next year will be just as much fun.
Some yearly statistics, about 2 million vistors this year, around 130 gb of data has been transfered. So itīs been a little less traffic this year, could be due to the lack of new games :) what do I now?
I always hope to get time to do some 'new' games, got some ideas written down, just waiting to be done. But I somehow doubt that will happen soon. :P Cheers to everyone out there!

flvPlayer
Iīve uploaded a beta of a simple YouTube style FLV player. Itīs meant to be small and hopefully easy to implement. I tried to keep the features simple and not bloat it to much.
Might be useful for someone out there, itīs free to use for anything by anyone :). I might release the source or make it skinnable in the future.

Online Ansi Reader
Continuing on the ascii art track, Iīve published an Online Ansi Reader aswell. Made this one in Flash8 with the bitmap stuff.

Check it out here, any suggestions for more features are welcome.

Mod player in Flash 9
André Michelle have developed a modplayer in Flash 9, called 8bitboy(preview). Itīs not done yet, but it looks incredibly cool so far.
The mod format was originally developed for the Amiga, read more about it on wikipedia. This essentially means we can create soundeffects etc. on the fly in Flash 9, among other things. Looking forward to try it out when itīs finished.

Some statistics, a little over 3 million vistors this year, about 190 gb of data has been transfered.
To those who have written mails and havenīt gotten any answer.. ;( Iīm very sorry. Most of the time I donīt have time answer or even read all of them, but thanks anyway. Itīs just pure luck if you happen to send it at a point when I have time to answer.. Sorry again. Cheers everybody out there!

Early Flash 8 tests
I have posted some of my early Flash 8 tests in the examples section. Havenīt been able to play around as much I wanted to though...
The bitmapdata api is what really could change some approaches to making games, damn cool stuff.

Mochibot
More than a month old news, just forgot to write about it. "MochiBot is a Flash traffic monitoring tool (similar to a hit counter) that tracks the performance of individual Flash content files (SWFs) no matter where they end up on the web.". Perfect if you want to spread your games to the world, but still be able to keep track of them.
When I can find some time, Iīm gonna implement this in some of my games and encourage people to spread and host them. Great work, MochiBot.

Ok, just one new game...
Had some sparetime this weekend, so I made a remake of one of Oskar van Deventer's awesome puzzles. Itīs called Threesome. You control three players who have to work together to exit a maze. Have a try.

Much work - no time for games :(
Havenīt had much time to play around and make any games lately, been busy at work and probably will be for some time. We launched our new portfolio site a few days ago by the way. One flash version and one html version.

Traffic problems
Been having some traffic problems with the site, so itīs been down for a week or so. But now itīs back again.
Havenīt been doing much games lately, been busy with my new job. And learning MX2004 ;) Things have certainly changed since Flash5, not always to the better. They should bundle an extra screen with it, so youīll have room for all those panels... :D

Back to Flash
As of next year(2005), I will be working full time as a flash programmer again ;)
I will be joining North Kingdom. A small, very talented web agency consisting of a few people I have worked with before.
I donīt think I will be coding many games though. Mostly websites I guess, which is also fun. So wish me luck! :-)

Merry X-mas and a Happy new year
Iīd like to wish you all a Merry christmas and a happy new year! Have bought myself an early christmas present... :) A Gba sp classic nes with a Flash card(has nothing to do with Macromedia Flash).
So Iīm gonna try and develop some simple games for it when I get chance ;)
A little statistics. Have had more than 4 million hits so far this year, more than 2 million of them were in December. About 70 gb of data was transfered. Reflex seemed to be the most popular game, about 800 000 hits. Big thanks to Moxiecode for hosting the site!

Second one was BlackOut, a classic simple puzzle game. Have had it on my HD for quite some time, but never gotten around to finish it until now. Thereīs always plenty of unfinished stuff, canīt be arsed to to graphics for them...

New package, same shit inside... Almost two years since the last redesign of the site, so it was about time ;)
Hadnīt done any html since last time, so that was.. erm.. interesting. I havenīt browser checked it, so it could look like sheit in browsers other than IE.
Iīm gonna try and clean up the content some time soon.. Let me know if anything dosenīt work!

New game - Blockdude
Have made a new game called Blockdude, another remake a great TI-83 game. Have also been playing with FlashMX a little and made this: Pacman with perspective, not really a game but more of a test...

A couple of games
Have made a couple of new puzzle games. First up was D-star, from the TI-83 calculator. Then it was Double Maze, remake of a great shockwave game. And finally a remake of a Java game called Eliminator. It was fun to script a little now again, although I was a bit rusty ;)

[OT] Life goes on...
Long time since I last wrote something here. Iīve been busy with other stuff in "real life". Working... and I bought myself a house(!), been busy renovating(only indoors so far). Moving, girlfriend and a bunch of other things have been taking my time.
So I havenīt been "Flashing" that much lately.. But now I finally got a broadband connection(2.5mBit) instead of my horrible 56k modem. Therefor Iīm hoping to get back into Flash a little bit.
Hereīs some unfinished stuff though, some old style scrolls, a new mario engine(arrowkeys, space, z), car physics(arrowkeys) and a metroid test(arrowkeys, space).

Tile tutorials by tonypa
Tonypa, veteran member of the Flashkit games forum, has made a whole bunch of tutorials about tilegames in flash. They are somewhat based on my shit, but they are more up to date codewise(flashMX and newer). They seem to be very well written, so I recommend everyone to go read them! Great work Tony :)

Really cool thread over at Flashkit about an old technique called z-mapping(Nintendo called it mode7, I think?). Useful for making games like Mariokart...
Thereīs some pretty cool examples from different people, be sure to check them out.

GoToAndPlay
GoToAndPlay is a new "Flash-gaming-community". A great initative, I think. The site looks very fresh, nice and clean.
Itīs a little low on content at the moment but it just launched, so thatīs understandable. They also launched a Bomberman clone, which looks very nice.
So check it out. (Thanks Marco)

Whizzball
Whizzball, a pretty cool isometric puzzle game by Andries Odendaal(Corrected: Sumona). The objective is to get a marble to the goal with the help of different tile-pieces. You can also design your own levels. It's great to see stuff like this beeing made in flash :).

Line of sight
Andre Michelle have been doing some nice algorithms for tile games. First there's a "Line of sight" algorithm, which looks great. Also there's a "Key catcher", that you might find useful. Check out his site, lots of cool stuff.

New hosting
My good friends at Moxiecode Systems have been so kind to offer me to host this site at their dev-server. Many thanks! The old url-forwarding will still work of course, "outsideofsociety.idz.net" that is, but it will be forwarded to http://oos.moxiecode.com instead.
The old one: "w1.910.telia.com/~u91024173" will be closed down eventually.
So letīs hope it works ok, and please let me know if you found some broken links or anything like that.

These are the finalists in the game category for FlashForward 2003:

New blog about games
Games Bond is a new blog that focuses on flash and shockwave games. Which I think is great, have really missed that among all the blogs that exists nowadays.

New beta player fixes bitmap distortion
Macromedia has released a new beta of the flash player(6.0.60.65). With this version the old and annoying bitmap distortion/bitmap shift bug, should finally have been fixed.
I havenīt tried it to see for myself. You can read the release notes here.

Small redesign + News = new Object()
I have given the site a small face lift, just felt it was about time. New is also this small section called "News" in lack of a better word.
I do not intend to make it in to another blog. Iīll just try to post stuff that I find interesting and releated to gamedev in flash. Donīt expect it to be updated very often.
