This week’s 8pack, ‘Close to Bill’ is all about the bass. Richard Thomas used The Bill Laswell Collection to make a downtempo track with all its energy focused squarely in the deep end. No fewer than four Laswell-played bass riffs are interwoven here with a rhythm bed captured directly off the Studer 2” 24-track deck nestled in a corner Laswell’s New Jersey enclave – the ultimate source material.
